The Original Alibi (Matt Kile Mystery, #2)The Original Alibi by David Bishop
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Matt Kile is a former homicide detective, and pardoned ex-con who writes mystery fiction.
A General Whitaker hires Kile to solve an eleven year old murder case - the killing of who was to be his future grand-daughter-in-law.
But I was annoyed by the homage to the detectives writers of the past who I love to read and write better.

BROKEN SIGIL by WILLIAM MEIKLE

(Kindle Edition)

There are houses like this all over the world. Most people only know of them from whispered stories over campfires; tall tales told to scare the unwary. But some, those who suffer…some know better. They are drawn to the places where what ails them can be eased.
If you have the will, the fortitude, you can peer into another life, where the dead are not gone, where you can see that they thrive and go on, in the dreams that stuff is made of.

While Broken Sigil is filled with ghosts, its true power lies in how it will haunt the reader’s mind even after the last word is read. Broken Sigil is one of those rare stories that is powerful enough to make the reader think about every word and turn it into something much more meaningful than just another story. - Examiner.com

Heartbreaking, chilling and highly recommended. - Ravenous Reads

ExpectationsExpectations by Samantha Jayne Adkins
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This is a continuation of Pride and Prejudice.

Firstly, the book could have been better edited, and the formatting for a kindle improved.

Secondly some of the scenes felt rushed and would have be better to have been taken more slowly.

Though I generally liked the story, I felt the introduction of the 2 babies late in the book made the story go wrong for me -
It would seen Darcy had an older sister Olivia who has a son Henry. We are not told if a marriage took place but Darcy makes him the heir.(?)

Then we have Darcy deciding that they will make Wickhams's son George the heir of Pemberley because he is older than Henry - wrong - to the extent that I exclaimed out loud 'that's stupid'. This is Wickham, a person hated by Darcy and who has no claim on Pemberley.

So the Darcys are going disinherit their future children for Wickham's son?

Then all this is forgotten! and George is just to be another nephew!

The Beholder (Maddie Richards Mystery, #1)The Beholder by David Bishop
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Detective Maddie Richards is assigned as the lead on a serial killer case - the Beholder.
I liked that family and relationship issues did not intrude on the plot and also this is a character that doesn't do stupid actions.
I also liked that I didn't work out who it was until the story got there, a big plus for me.

The Legend of Devil's CreekThe Legend of Devil's Creek by D.C. Alexander
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Enjoyed the first chapter and thought I was going to get a hard hitting murder mystery. But it then moved into the territory of philosophy and teenage angst.
The story concerns the discovery of a mutilated corpse in the woods on a small island off the coast of Seattle.
More bodies are found and is there a link to an old ghost story.

THE HOLE by WILLIAM MEIKLE

(Kindle Edition)

It starts with a hum that brings headaches and nosebleeds to the inhabitants of a sleepy country town. Then the sinkhole starts to form. Out of the hole come their worst nightmares.
A group of survivors descend into the collapsed area, trying to survive, facing their worst fears, and looking for a way to save what is left of their town.
Sacrifices have to be made.
But will it be enough?

There is no doubt in my mind that Mr. Meikle is one of the premier storytellers of our time. The Hole is one hell of a story, a fun ride and a blast to read.- Famous Monsters of Filmland

Lei Texeira living on the Hawaii Big Island town of Hilo has overcome a sexual abuse past to become a policewoman. (It seems every policeman has to have overcome some trauma in their past).
The action involves a stalker and murders. But at times I felt Lei just did stupid things which just annoyed me.

Prejudice Meets Pride Prejudice Meets Pride by Rachael Anderson After years of pinching pennies and struggling to get through art school, Emma Makie’s hard work finally pays off with the offer of a dream job. But when tragedy strikes, she has no choice but to make a cross-country move to Colorado Springs to take temporary custody of her two nieces. She has no money, no job prospects, and no idea how to be a mother to two little girls, but she isn’t about to let that stop her. Nor is she about to accept the help of Kevin Grantham, her handsome new neighbor, who seems to think she’s incapable of doing anything on her own. Fun, compelling, and romantic, Prejudice Meets Pride is the story of a guy who thinks he has it all figured out and a girl who isn't afraid to show him that he doesn't. It’s about learning what it means to trust, figuring out how to give and to take, and realizing that not everyone gets to pick the person they fall in love with. Sometimes, love picks them.   RachaelAuthor Rachael Anderson USA Today bestselling author Rachael Anderson is the mother of four and is pretty good at breaking up fights, or at least sending guilty parties to their rooms. She can't sing, doesn't dance, and despises tragedies. But she recently figured out how yeast works and can now make homemade bread, which she is really good at eating.

Elizabeth Darcy of PemberleyElizabeth Darcy of Pemberley by Maggi J Coxon
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

In letter form this is a sequel to Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.
I enjoyed the story but I would have liked the dates of the letters to note the passing of time. I read it as an ebook so it may have been a problem of the ebook, also I would have liked to have known who the letters were from at the top of each letter, again this might have be fine if reading in book format.
